St. Rita Alum, Dybek, receives Genius Grant. Writer Stuart Dybek, author of the acclaimed short story collection The Coast of Chicago, has won a MacArthur Foundation "genius grant." Dybek, a writer-in-residence at Northwestern University, is one of 24 MacArthur fellows for 2007. He has written three short story collections and two books of poetry. Much of his writing is set in Chicago.

  St. Rita Goes High Tech. St. Rita High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and demonstration of its new Distance Learning Center for community leaders, alumni, and faculty on October 13. The Distance Learning Center was funded by way of a grant from The Comcast Foundation with the help of 14th Ward Alderman Edward M. Burke. The center will be incorporated in all facets of St. Rita's curriculum, and all students will be taking distance learning classes during their four years at the school. Virtual educational field trips will be available to St. Rita students and to area grade school students as an outreach to the community.
